  1. Welcome to the PASSWORD Program.  This is a simple but effective
  2. password program to help secure your personal computer.  It is
  3. written in VB for DOS and uses four files:
  4.  
  5.         1. Password.exe - Program file
  6.         2. Pass.lck - Hidden Password file
  7.         3. Install.exe - Program Installation
  8.         4. Readme.1st - This file
  9.  
  10. This program should be installed by using the installation program.
  11. Before installing and executing this program, it is recommended that
  12. you create a system boot disk incase you have a problem.  This is
  13. done by placing a disk in drive A: and typing SYS A: at the C:> prompt.
  14. Retain the boot disk.  
  15.  
  16. Make sure the installation files are on a disk in drive A:.  At the
  17. A:> prompt, type install <ENTER>.  The program files will be place
  18. as follows:

  20.         1. Password.exe - C:\
  21.         2. Pass.lck - C:\DOS
  22.  
  23. After installing the files, place the following command at the
  24. begining of you AUTOEXEC.BAT file:
  25.  
  26.         c:\password.exe
  27.  
  28. THE STARTUP PASSWORD IS: 123456789
  29.  
  30. Now when you computer boots up, the password program will be activated.
  31. If you forget your password or have another problem, place your boot
  32. disk in drive A: to re-start your computer.  Then re-install the password
  33. program.  To completely secure your computer, put a drive lock on your
  34. A: drive.  
  35.  
  36. The program works very simply.  When you turn on your computer, the program
  37. screen comes up requesting your password.  After entering your password,
  38. you are then given a chance to change it.  If at any time you enter a 
  39. wrong password, the program set you back to the enter screen.
  40. If you try to exit from the program, without entering the correct password,
  41. the computer then re-boots.

  43. If you wish to uninstall the program, just remove the line (C:\password.exe)
  44. from your autoexec.bat file then delete the program file.
  45.  
  46. This program will work on any IBM PC/AT or compatible.  You need to have
  47. DOS 5.0 installed and DOS in its own directory to use the install program.
