- Welcome to the PASSWORD Program. This is a simple but effective
- password program to help secure your personal computer. It is
- written in VB for DOS and uses four files:
-
- 1. Password.exe - Program file
- 2. Pass.lck - Hidden Password file
- 3. Install.exe - Program Installation
- 4. Readme.1st - This file
-
- This program should be installed by using the installation program.
- Before installing and executing this program, it is recommended that
- you create a system boot disk incase you have a problem. This is
- done by placing a disk in drive A: and typing SYS A: at the C:> prompt.
- Retain the boot disk.
-
- Make sure the installation files are on a disk in drive A:. At the
- A:> prompt, type install <ENTER>. The program files will be place
- as follows:
-
- 1. Password.exe - C:\
- 2. Pass.lck - C:\DOS
-
- After installing the files, place the following command at the
- begining of you AUTOEXEC.BAT file:
-
- c:\password.exe
-
- THE STARTUP PASSWORD IS: 123456789
-
- Now when you computer boots up, the password program will be activated.
- If you forget your password or have another problem, place your boot
- disk in drive A: to re-start your computer. Then re-install the password
- program. To completely secure your computer, put a drive lock on your
- A: drive.
-
- The program works very simply. When you turn on your computer, the program
- screen comes up requesting your password. After entering your password,
- you are then given a chance to change it. If at any time you enter a
- wrong password, the program set you back to the enter screen.
- If you try to exit from the program, without entering the correct password,
- the computer then re-boots.
-
- If you wish to uninstall the program, just remove the line (C:\password.exe)
- from your autoexec.bat file then delete the program file.
-
- This program will work on any IBM PC/AT or compatible. You need to have
- DOS 5.0 installed and DOS in its own directory to use the install program.
